About

A publication about how professionals approach their work.

Work in Conversation explores how professionals approach their work, careers, industries and decisions through original conversations.

Most writing about accomplished people describes results. We are interested in method: how a decision was actually reached, what the person believed at the time, what they would do differently, and what they still find difficult. Those answers are more useful than a summary of a career, and they are usually more interesting.

Every piece begins with a real conversation. Questions are written by the editorial desk. Answers are the subject’s own words, edited for length and clarity and checked with them before publication. We do not write answers on anyone’s behalf, and we do not publish invented quotations.

We publish across professions deliberately — finance and medicine, law and carpentry, software and logistics — because the interesting parts of professional judgement rhyme across fields that never read each other’s trade press.
